Re-New: Reusing Furniture to Renew Hope

...
Not only is Julie Davis a phenomenal designer, she and her friend, Cheryl Hays, have started an amazing charity called Re-New. Re-New gives hope for abused women and children who have had to flee their homes, by providing them with home furnishings and essentials to help them transition better into new homes. We had the pleasure of talking with Julie to learn more about this impacting organization and see the inspiring transformations they have made into these families' homes. "I had an idea for Re-New about a year and a half ago. It began with the thought of being a "connector" between those who have with those who need. Cheryl Hays and I started it thinking that we could possibly complete 6 homes a year. God had bigger plans and Re-New has done 35 homes!! To date, Re-New has furnished homes for 36 women and 45 children. We are blessed to be a part of such a generous and big-hearted city. It is now a full-time program at the YWCA!" "Each home takes over 20 women giving their furniture, money, time and effort. But most of all, we give love and hope. The best thing that is said from the recipient is that they feel "love" when they walk in the door. That is the goal: to give a little hope to these brave women who have gone through so much. Making a difference one home at a time. We hope this will help break the cycle of abuse and give hope to many in our community." "Extra furniture and household items can be donated to Re-New at the YWCA so that we can create furnished homes. We accept any small-scale furniture, small kitchen appliances such as toasters, coffee pots, crock pots, accessories, lamps, bedding, drapes, cleaning supplies, bathroom items, etc. Anything that one would use to set up a home would be helpful." If you would like to donate, you can go to the YWCA website:  (http://www.ywcanashville.com/Programs/Re-New) , or you may call Cheryl Hays at 615-596-4935. All donations are 100% tax-deductible. This year, Re-New will be hosting its first ever "Run for Re-New"--a 5K run that will be a fun event for the family, while also raising funds for this incredible organization.  It will be Nashville's first stroller-race event and will be held this Saturday, Oct 6, 2012 at the Westside Athletic Club on Vaughn's Gap Road. Sign up at www.runforrenew.com.  Please come out to support this charity!
